YouTube Is Eliminating Its Direct Messaging Function From September

The direct messaging feature by YouTube is not precisely Google’s most well-liked method to converse, but it was a suitable method to share videos on the website, particularly on handset. It almost certainly was not employed often enough because the firm has made a decision to kill the feature overall. A support page on YouTube has disclosed that the video-sharing service is eliminating its native messaging feature after September 18, 2019.

YouTube did not detailed on why it made a decision to end the feature, but it claimed that it is going to aim on increasing up the website’s comments segment. “We are reevaluating our priorities constantly and have made a decision to end YouTube’s native DM feature while we aim on enhancing public chats,” the page claims. We expect this indicates we can look forward to enhanced moderation tools and features in the future for YouTube comments.

YouTube claims you will still be capable of sharing videos directly from the platform by tapping the “social network” logo. If you are on desktop, you can always just copy and paste links into your preferred messaging app.

On a related note, there is possibly no other function that is more often mentioned as missing from YouTube Music as compared to support for Android Auto. Certainly, you can manually open and mange the app on your handset while it is linked to the car and get music, but this is obviously not what users are requesting for. Clues about in-car support were included to the apk a couple of months back, but that commitment has finally come true.

As of version 3.03, you can now employ YouTube Music squarely via the interface of Android Auto. Similar to any other Android Auto music player, you can turn to YouTube Music by going to the music tab and clicking on the button to get the source selector.
